The next method is by using virtual machines. Depending on whether your PC is Intel or AMD, there are two main methods to download Garageband on Windows PC: The VMware method for Intel-based processors and the AMD-V for AMD-based processors. To learn how to run macOS on a VMware Virtual Machine, follow these steps
Setting up VMware and macOS Virtual Machine
Step 1: The first thing that you need to do is download the macOS Catalina image on your Windows 10 PC. Head over to this link to download the image. After the download completes, extract the image with any file extractor.
Step 2: The next step is to download the Virtual machine software that you’ll be using. In our case it’s VMware. So, head over to the following link and download VMware Workstation Player 15.5.7.
Step 3: Next, download the VMware Patch tool. This is required to run macOS Catalina on your Virtual machine. Download the tool and extract it into the same folder as the VMware root folder. After that, close VMware if it’s already running and then run the win-install script as admin.
Step 4: Open VMware and click on “Create and New Virtual Machine”. After that, select “I Will Install the Operating System Later”.
Step 5: Next, choose Apple Mac OS X and select version 10.14. In the next step, name your virtual machine, choose an easy name for edits later. Now select the “Store Virtual Disk as a Single File” option and proceed towards the wizard completion.
Step 6: For now, don’t run your virtual machine because you need to make some edits. So on the main screen of VMware right click on the macOS Virtual machine that you just created and click on settings.
Step 7: In settings, allocate the following resources. RAM should be set to 4, however, you can increase it if you have more RAM. The processor cores should be set to 2.
Step 8: Right-click on the Hard Disk and select remove. After that, click on “Add” and select “Hard Disk”. Then select “SATA” and click on “Use an Existing Disk”. Now select the location of your extracted macOS.
Editing MacOS VMX File for Intel or AMD users
Before you launch your Virtual Machine and start using macOS on it, you need to make these final edits before proceeding.
Here are the final edits that you need to make:
- Head over to the default location of the macOS Virtual machine. Right-click on the macOS.vmx and click edit.
- Next, add “smc.version = “0” at the bottom of the opened config file. This is where the steps end for Intel users.
- AMD users need to add the following codes:
smc.version = “0”
cpuid.0.eax = “0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:1011”
cpuid.0.ebx = “0111:0101:0110:1110:0110:0101:0100:0111”
cpuid.0.ebx = “0111:0101:0110:1110:0110:0101:0100:0111”
cpuid.0.edx = “0100:1001:0110:0101:0110:1110:0110:1001”
cpuid.1.eax = “0000:0000:0000:0001:0000:0110:0111:0001”
cpuid.1.ebx = “0000:0010:0000:0001:0000:1000:0000:0000”
cpuid.1.ecx = “1000:0010:1001:1000:0010:0010:0000:0011”
cpuid.1.edx = “0000:1111:1010:1011:1111:1011:1111:1111”
- Now save your edits, head back to VMware and start your Virtual Machine!
